Not everyone summoned by MACC is a criminal, says Azam Baki
SHAH ALAM - Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said being summoned by the commission doesn't necessarily mean they are criminals.
He said it is not right to conclude that individuals who are called up by the commission in relation to a corruption probe are criminals when the investigation is still ongoing.
He said that those individuals called up by the MACC to testify were assisting in the investigation.
"We cannot draw our own conclusions, whether about those who are called as witnesses or suspects," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Azam confirmed that MACC will summon the former Finance Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, to testify.
Tengku Zafrul's testimony will be recorded soon to assist the investigation related to the Jana Wibawa project, he added.
Meanwhile, Azam also confirmed that they have obtained a statement from former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
