Almost 100 human trafficking victims from Myanmar found in Kelantan raid

KOTA BHARU - Almost 80 men and 19 women from Myanmar, suspected human trafficking victims were found by the police in a raid at a bush near a padi field at Kampung Sapi, Jeram Perdah, Pasir Mas on Friday.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the victims did not have valid identification to enter the country.

He said General Operations Force (PGA) assisted by Strike Force Kompeni and Jeram Perdah police station officers had done prior observation in the area.

"A man suspected of being involve in the human trafficking case was found entering the bush carrying food packages under suspicious circumstances.

"The Thai man handed the food over to the group," he said in a statement today.

Investigation found that all 97 victims were aged between 16 to 58 and were currently detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Zaki added further the enforcement team found a mobile phone and cash worth RM3,000, believed to be from human trafficking activities.

"The suspect is currently detained under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and the investigation is in progress," he added.
