SHAH ALAM - International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz was sworn in as an Umno Supreme Council member tonight.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed this in a tweet earlier.

"Today's meeting began with Zafrul taking an oath as one of the MKT members appointed by Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi.

"Congratulations on serving the religion, nation, and country so that Malaysians can progress and prosper through our joint efforts."

The meeting was held today at the World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur, as per Ahmad's statement on this official Twitter account.

Ahmad also shared a photo of the swearing-in ceremony.

It was previously reported that Tengku Zafrul, who is also the Selangor Barisan Nasional treasurer, was interested in the Umno supreme council position, citing that the move would allow him to build a strong political footing in the long term.
