ALOR SETAR - An assistant cook pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of causing the death of his employer early this month.

Azahari Hamid, 56, was charged with causing the death by negligence of Ishak Othman, 69, behind Restoran Cabai, Jalan Stadium here at 5.15 pm last Feb 4.

The charge, framed under Section 304A of the Penal Code, provides a two-year prison sentence or a fine, or both if convicted.

Magistrate Muhammad Zul Hilmi Latif allowed Azahari bail of RM4,000 with one surety and fixed March 21 for mention pending the autopsy report.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nasruna Anhar Nordien, while lawyer Pyara Singh represented the accused. - BERNAMA
