Tackle climate change and contribute to an environmentally sustainable future at Planet Us

KUALA LUMPUR - Great weekend ahead as Planet Us will be organising an interactive and engaging exhibition to educate and inspire Malaysian youths to play a more proactive role in tackling climate crisis and ways to contribute an environmentally sustainable future.

Spearheaded by the United States Embassy Kuala Lumpur's American Corners network, Planet Us kicks begins today at The Square in Public Shopping Gallery from Feb 15 to 19 and later at Taman Tugu Negara from Feb 24 to 26.

The educational exhibition features a variety of workshops on topics such as edible gardening, zero waste living and upcycling.

Moving in line with its three climate action for sustainability “Conserve, Preserve and Innovate”, Planet Us aspires to enhance environmental literacy, encourage sustainable habits and implement solutions to climate change among Malaysian youth.

Speaking on sustainable climate actions, US Embassy Kuala Lumpur's Counselor for Public Affairs Melinda Masonis urged everyone to start taking simple actions to protect the environment.

Melinda added that supporting Malaysian efforts on sustainable climate action is a key goal of the embassy.

"We are thrilled to have worked with Biji-Biji Initiative, who do amazing work on education and sustainability within communities.  

"Since June 2022, Planet Us has continued to educate thousands of young Malaysians about the impact of their daily actions on the environment.

"We encourage Malaysian youth to continue increasing their awareness of environmental sustainability and to recognise that every small step they take can go a long way towards protecting the environment," she said after the launch of Planet Us exhibition here today.

Since its launch last year, Planet Us has engaged youths across Sarawak, Kedah, Kelantan, Sabah and Penang before making its final stop in Kuala Lumpur this month.

Each of these stops included workshops, panel discussions, community clean-ups and activities which is open to public.

To date, approximately 6,000 Malaysians made environmental pledges on the Planet Us website and hundreds of Malaysians have participated the upcycling competition.

The winners will be announced at the Planet Us finale event and will receive micro-grants worth up to RM5,000.
