Minister flaunts fresh bread on Tiktok as in-house bakeries run by Palestinian prisoners banned in Israeli prisons

SHAH ALAM - Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is seen flexing freshly baked bread in a Tiktok video recently following Israel's move to ban baking in prisons.

The video depics him eating a bread after ordering the closure of in-house bakeries run by Palestinian prisoners that provides bread to other inmates.

"No baking is allowed in Ktzi'ot and Nafha prison. Now it's time to eat fresh bread.

"Terrorist should not receive fresh baked goods. I hope that what we have done is only the beginning," he said in the video.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the minister ordered the closure of Palestinian prisoner-run bakeries in Israel's prisons.

Ben-Gvir's office, in a stateemnt, said the move was aimed at denying benefits and indulgences to terrorists in Israel, which was denied to regular prisoners as well.

Media reports said some Palestinian prisoners in Rimon and Ketziot prisons run in-house bakeries that provide bread to other inmates.

"Prisoners cannot get such privileges. How can they get fresh bread everyday? What is this absurdity?," Ben-Gvir said in the video.

There are currently more than 4,700 Palestinians prisoners in Israeli jails according to the Addameer monitoring group.

Last weekend, Malaysia hosted the International Conference on Palestine Kuala Lumpur 2023 (ICPKL) focusing on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, thousands of whom have been held under “administrative detention” without being charged or even told what crimes they were suspected of having committed.

At the same time, the conference highlighted the many ways Israel imprisons Palestine.

Among the speakers were Israeli-American activist Miko Peled who highlighted here the austrocities Israel have done onto the Palestinians.

Meanwhile, ICPKL advisor Dr Fauziah Mohd Hassan said Palestinian prisoners were not criminals and have basis to be arrested aside from being Palestinian.
