Bursa Malaysia turns higher in mid-afternoon
KUALA LUMPUR- Bursa Malaysia turned higher in mid-afternoon on renewed buying momentum in selected heavyweight stocks.
At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 7.84 points to 1,483.01 from Monday's close of 1,475.17. The market bellwether opened 1.96 points better at 1,477.13
The market breadth, however, was negative with decliners trouncing gainers 435 to 372, while 397 counters were unchanged, 983 untraded, and nine others suspended.
Turnover amounted to 2.20 billion units worth RM1.26 billion.
Among Bursa Malaysia heavyweights, Maybank added 3.0 sen to RM8.80 while Petronas Chemicals and IHH Healthcare were 5.0 sen higher at RM8.13 and RM5.95, respectively. Public Bank fell 1.0 sen to RM4.18 and CIMB lost 2.0 sen to RM5.42.
Of the actives, MYEG rose 2.0 sen to 62.5 sen, Hong Seng gained 1.0 sen to 21 sen while Sapura Energy and Velesto slid half-a-sen each to 5.0 sen and 23 sen, respectively. Pesona Metro went down 1.0 sen to 29 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index soared 46.83 points to 10,780.60, the FBMT 100 Index advanced 49.22 points to 10,452.79 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 77.13 points to 11,098.40. The FBM 70 Index added 38.0 points to 13,578.43 and the FBM ACE Index climbed up 19.28 points to 5,694.64.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index went up 4.41 points to 16,155.37, the Energy Index eased 4.27 points to 893.76 and the Plantation Index widened 72.81 points to 6,911.68. The Industrial Products and Services Index grew 1.01 points to 189.01. - BERNAMA
