Hasmuni criticises Ramasamy over remark on issue of dominance in public service

SHAH ALAM - Umno youth secretary Datuk Hasmuni Hassan has criticised the statement made by Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P.Ramasamy regarding the call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to reform the public service claimed to be Malay-dominated.

Hasmuni said the claims made by the DAP leader had insulted the Malays as it portrayed them as being unable to be succeed and dependant on the government.

He reminded Ramasamy to not “poke the hornet’s nest” by purposely raising issues just because of his prejudice towards the Prime Minister.

“Non-Malays are not interested in the public service as they feel that the pay scale is low, while Malays were willing to serve the government because of patriotism and to ensure good governance in the country.

“They (Malays) also joined the public service for their credibility through an open and standardised screening process.

“There is no discrimination for any race to join the public service as the roles offered were opened and the selection process is made based on the requirements of the certain job,” he said in a statement, today.

Meawhile Hasmuni described Ramasamy as being afraid by his own shadow or was not confident in Anwar because of the Malaysia Madani concept which awakened the national spirit.

Ramasamy on Friday urged Anwar to reform the public services he claimed to be dominated by Malays and it was implemented during the era of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the old argument in favour of Malays to balance the economic dominance of the Chinese was no longer applicable.

Ramasamy said the argument was used by Dr Mahathir to institutionalise Malay hegemony in the public sector especially public services.
