SHAH ALAM - It is not mandatory for owners of private vehicles to download the MyJPJ mobile application, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

In a Facebook post, he said the application was one of the options for private vehicle owners to obtain a digital copy of their Malaysian Vehicle Licence (LKM) or known as road tax and the Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM).

Loke was responding to questions by the public following the ministry’s implementation of digitisation measures of the Road Transport Department (JPJ) services, yesterday.

He said enforcement officers can verify the road tax status and driver’s licence through their own gadgets.

Loke also assured that the public will not be issued with summonses in the event they fail to provide a digital copy of their road tax or license to the enforcement officers.

The digital road tax, he said can be printed on paper and kept inside the car if the car was not driven by the owner.

"However, if you can't show proof, it's not an offence. The enforcement will check the details in their gadgets.

"Don't worry, the digital format is not mandatory. You can still get a road tax sticker and physical license from JPJ if needed," he said.

In his response to why the public could not login to the MyJPJ application, Loke said the application and website were currently experiencing high traffic.

"I know there are many more questions from the people. We will try to provide a clear explanation.

"I realise that in any process of change, it will take time to adjust. Some parties will disagree with the change.

'I respect all views and will try to manage the change as best as I can," he said.
