SHAH ALAM - A famous hardware brand was fined RM50,000 by the Kajang Sessions Court for failing to ensure a safe work system which caused the death of an employee while at work.

The Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) in a statement said on Thursday, judge Sayani Mohd Nor handed down the fine after the company’s director as a representative pleaded guilty to the offence.

According to the statement, the company was charged with failing to provide a work platform that caused the death of its worker, who fell while unloading items to be put on the racks.

The offence was committed at Jalan Balakong in Seri Kembangan, Selangor at 3.04pm on Dec 16, 2021.

The company was charged under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 for failing to ensure its worker's safety, health and welfare while at work, thus causing the victim’s death.

Selangor DOSH prosecuting officer Mohamad Firdaus Abu Hassan conducted the prosecution.
