Ismail Sabri explains his disappointment
SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri has come forward to clarify certain confusing quotes from his media interview with a local news outlet.
Ismail, through his social media said he was merely expressing his disappointment during his time as the Prime Minister from Umno.
“In the interview, I only shared my disappointment which I have never expressed before.
“I was the Umno Prime Minister and to strengthen the party at that time, from 29 Cabinet ministers, 14 of them were from Barisan Nasional (BN) - though we only had 42 parliamentary seats ,” he wrote
The Bera MP further shared the pressure he received throughout his term as the Prime Minister from Umno stating that it was as if he was not the Prime Minister at the time.
“I was pressured (dilanyak) at that time. It was as if my own party was the opposition.
“That was what I meant during my interview.” he wrote.
Ismail had recently conducted an interview with the local news outlet
Previously, Ismail had an interview with a local media which he was misinterpreted as saying that Umno leaders were being crushed in the Unity Government.
This statement had received unfavourable responses from Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and also Umno secretary-general, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
Zahid was reported as saying that whatever Ismail said was his own opinion and Ahmad Maslan was reported as saying that he was not clear as to what Ismail wanted to convey.
