Hasmuni Hassan to contest for Umno youth chief post
NURFADLINA IZZATI MOKTARKUALA LUMPUR - Umno youth secretary Datuk Hasmuni Hassan has announced his candidacy for the Umno youth chief in the upcoming party polls.
Apart from that, Hasmuni also introduced a candidate line-up comprised of several individuals that will run for other positions in the Umno election.
The line-up consisted of Hairi Mad Shah who will stand for the Umno deputy chief post, Dr Akmal Salleh (youth secretary), Mohd Naim Mokhtar (youth treasurer), and Mohd Sollehin Mohamad Tajie (youth information chief).
Hasmuni also appealed for support from all Umno Youth representatives nationwide to make sure Umno will continue to rise up and to continue the legacy of fighting for religion, race, and nation.
"The line-up's main focus is to win the 16th General Election (GE16) in the future and to ensure the youth's support for Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
"With God's will, after winning (the Umno election), we will outline a strategy to once again secure the youth's support for Umno and BN," he said in a press conference at a hotel here today.
The 2023 Umno election will be from last Feb 1 to March 18, while the Umno annual delegate conference for Wanita, Youth, and Puteri wings will be from Feb 1 to 26.
The Umno division and supreme council (MKT) elections will be held simultaneously nationwide on March 18.
Hasmuni said he has choosen these line-up because the members displayed the 'revival spirit'.
"They are determined to make sure Umno is lifted back to its former glory. The team members have the spirit to revive, that was ignited after Umno's defeat in GE14 and after Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki took over Umno Youth "This team carries a strong spirit and will continue to keep that spirit to keep rising," he said.
When asked about competition from other candidates, he said he respected every candidate who would be competing.
"I respect the other candidates, and this is democracy in Umno.
"Those who meet the criteria can offer themselves to take up any position," he explained.
