KafeTeen programme to increase awareness on sexual health among teens: Nancy

PUTRAJAYA: KafeTeen programme by the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry will increase awareness and knowledge on reproduction and sexual health.

In saying this, its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri stated that now with added interactive activities which help teenagers fill their time while also improving their knowledge, identity, and skills in different ways.

She said the KafeTEEN Outreach Truck provides on-the-ground activities such as Teen Talk/Teen Chat, youth counselling, and Busker Sahabat KafeTEEN.

"The target set for the KafeTEEN Outreach Truck for 2023 is 6,000 teenagers nationwide to improve their knowledge and understanding of the negative effects of premarital sex, reproductive health, and social issues surrounding teenagers," she said the launching of KafeTEEN Outreach Truck delivery ceremony today.

Commenting on the ministry's role towards underage rape victims, she said they take the matter seriously and extend help to the victims and their children.

"As part of the efforts to help these victims, we have created opportunities and activities at KafeTEEN. This would also help to spread and discuss the platform among the peers.

"The target set for the KafeTEEN Outreach Truck for 2023 is 6,000 teenagers nationwide to improve their knowledge and understanding of the negative effects of premarital sex, reproductive health, and social issues surrounding teenagers,"Nancy said.

Apart from that, she said the ministry will continue its strategic collaborations with schools, learning institutions, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), where these organisations will work together in disseminating information on the topic.

"Everyone understands the urgent need to address this issue, hence why we see a huge participation today for the launching of KafeTEEN here today," she said.
