Over 240 aftershocks rock Turkiye, Syria after Monday quake

ISTANBUL - There have been 243 aftershocks in the Turkish-Syrian border region so far, according to Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

AFAD chairman Yunus Sezer gave the updated figure on Tuesday morning, a day after a powerful quake hit the region, killing thousands in Turkey and Syria.

Rula Amin, UNHCR spokesperson for the Middle East and North Africa, told German Press Agency (dpa) that with so many aftershocks and tremors people were too afraid to stay in their homes but had no where to go in the freezing weather conditions. - Bernama
