SMART team departs to Turkey to help with SAR mission -PM

SHAH ALAM - Special Malaysian Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) have departed for Turkey last night to assist local authorities in the Search and Rescue (SAR) mission in the earthquake-affected areas there.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, on behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, he expressed sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families, and all affected by the disaster.

"May Allah grant recovery to the victims and peace to those grieving," he said in a Facebook post on Monday.

Yesterday, the media reported that an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale had struck southern Turkey at Kahramanmaras at 4.17am.

The Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (Afad) informed that the earthquake has also affected the Pazarcik district.
