PETALING JAYA - Political leaders are told not to use race and religion in issues linked to corruption as the government initiatives firm measures to save the country, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said this to comment on the recent freezing of several accounts belonging to Bersatu.

The PKR president said Malaysia is now on the brink of destruction due to corruption which has become part of the national system.

"I want the rakyat's cooperation. Good governance. The Pakatan Harapan government is determined to stop corruption.

"Believe me, after a few months in the government, I am more convinced that this problem is indeed complicated and difficult to unravel.

"The question of freezing political party declarations is not new. While Umno party accounts were frozen, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin gave strong support, defending the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) professionalism.

"Now the freezing has been done against Bersatu's account because the amount is large and also linked to several government decisions under his leadership," he said during a press conference at PKR headquarters, here on Monday.

Anwar also said that Bersatu should be prepared to give explanation and not interfere with enforcement bodies like cope, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), and MACC.

"If there is prosecution, let the judiciary act independently."
