SHAH ALAM - An NGO has urged the government to allow targeted withdrawal from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) immediately before the 2023 school session starts.

Pertubuhan Gagasan Inovasi Rakyat (PGIRM) president Azmi Mohd Tahir said the number of contributors who depended on the savings following the hike in cost of living have increased.

“Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, we want to make it clear after several interviews with contributors who were pressured and desperate, we found almost all were not completely reliant on EPF funds but their condition are pressing and their options are limited.

“A targeted withdrawal would be an emergency EPF withdrawal for contributors affected by the cost of living.

“The individuals need their savings and we hope the government will approve (the withdrawals) immediately before the 2023 school session," he said.
