'We feel disappointed and wronged'
KUALA LUMPUR - More than 50 food delivery workers expressed their disappointment today as they claim the wages that they are receiving are getting smaller.
They claimed that this has been happening since the expansion of the working area zone which was implemented by the company involved last Monday, resulting in a decrease in income.
A food delivery worker who only wanted to be known as Hazim, 20, said this is a problem when he ha sto deliver food to a location that is far.
"The disproportionate rate of payment coupled with the remote location gives an impact in terms of cost to us," he said when met by reporters after handing over a memorandum together with about 100 workers in front of the company in Jalan Chan Sow Lin on Friday.
Hazim added, the expansion of the zone and routes involved is seen as a good way to increase the income of the food delivery worker, but it needs to be in line with the wages received.
He added that he did not mind delivering to a more distant location as long as the wages received are worth it, various things need to be taken into account such as fuel costs, motorcycle maintenance and so on.
Meanwhile for Zaim Bakar 36, the income earned as a food delivery worker has decreased due to the implementation of certain policies by the companies involved.
"Some of us make delivering food as a permanent job, so when the wages are less, it is indeed something that is very burdensome for us to support the family," he explained.
Meanwhile, PKR Youth (AMK) strategic director, Bryan Ng, said that his party and representatives of the motorcycle food delivery service workers were present to submit a memorandum related to the issue.
"So far, the feedback received has been positive and the company has informed that it will look into the issues related to the demarcation of the expanded zone and the wages received
"We had also proposed that an incentive for food couriers should be introduced to reduce the burden they have to bear," he said.
