YAN - A lost adult sun bear in Kampung Kabu Sepuluh, Selengkoh Tengah here, which injured a firefighter was caught at about 1.21pm today.
Yan District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Shahnaz Akhtar Haji said the female bear was caught using an anesthetic shot by the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).
It was difficult to track the bear due to the vast rice paddy fields, it was then found hiding behind a tree in the paddy field
"The bear was placed in a cage and was handed over to Perhilitan for further action," he said when contacted.
The joint operation to capture the bear consisted of several agencies namely the Royal Malaysian Police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Rela members, Perhilitan and even the villagers.
Previously, Sinar reported a firefighter was injured after he was bitten by the sun bear early Thursday morning.
During the incident, the victim, Mohamad Nizam Hamid, 27 accompanied by other firefighters surrounded the bear before it started acting aggressively.
It was reported that the victim is in a stable condition after receiving treatment at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) in Sungai Petani.
