Rally without permit: Police record statements from 10 individuals

KUALA LUMPUR – Police record statements of 10 individuals to aid investigations into a rally without permit in front of the Swedish and Dutch Embassy, here, last Friday.

Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the individuals were summoned to have their statements recorded recently.

"We will call several more individuals identified to record their statements soon," he said at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters Monthly Meeting, here, earlier.

It was reported that police have identified individuals involved in the two unlawful rallies and would call them to have their statements recorded at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD).

The Dang Wangi IPD Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) opened two investigation papers under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

The investigation papers would be completed and referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further orders.

Police found the peaceful demonstration and submission of the memorandum which protested Quran burning and the solidarity demonstration which protested against the insult towards Islam did not comply with the law as they did not have any permits to do so.

About 80 individuals participated in the rally held in front of the Dutch Embassy and 400 participated in the rally held at the Swedish Embassy.
