Stop 'yes boss' culture to ensure check and balance, says Taufiq

SHAH ALAM - A check and balance within the government bloc must be done to improve Malaysia's Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the unity government should stop the 'yes boss' culture as practiced in the previous government.

"The empowerment of the institution itself is much more important. This meand no favouritism in terms of investigations," he said to Sinar on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Transparency International-Malaysia (TI-M) president Dr Muhammad Mohan stated that Malaysia's 2022 CPI score released by TI had declined to 47 points among 180 countries.

Muhammad said the country had slipped from 53 points in 2019.

Taufiq stressed that each ongoing court cases, even those that involve leaders cannot be interfered with by any parties.

"Investigations must continue in a transparent manner, now is the time to reform all institutions and the system itself, that is much more important," he said.
