JOHOR BAHRU - Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin says his appointment as the new Umno Johor Chairman is to ensure unity with the state party liaison committee remains intact.

The Umno Pasir Gudang Division chief said his priority at the moment was to ensure the prosperity and unity of Umno Johor remained preserved.

"In politics, there must be storms and turbulence. Accept it as ups and downs in the struggle, and God willing, the most important wisdom will come from all of that.

"I call on all Umno Johor leaders to come together and agree for the survival of the party.God willing, I will not exclude and marginalise anyone," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Umno supreme council on Friday dropped Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamad as Umno Johor Chairman and appointed Mohamed Khaled in his place.

The supreme council also suspended the former Umno Vice President, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former Umno Information Chief, Shahril Sufian Hamdan, former Umno Tebrau Division Chief, Datuk Maulizan Bujang, and former Jempol MP, Datuk Seri Salim Sharif for six years.

Moreover, the Umno supreme council also axed the former Umno Selangor Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar and the former Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Commenting further, Mohamed Khaled shared that his appointment as Umno Johor Chairman came with a very heavy responsibility.

The former Johor Menteri Besar extended his appreciation and gratitude for Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for trusting him.
