Umno will rise, move forward in five new directions - Ahmad Maslan

SHAH ALAM - Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan insists that Umno will rise again with five new directions to move the party forward.

He said the direction was outlined by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in his policy speech at 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) and had been reviewed yesterday in the Umno supreme council meeting.

"The supreme council meeting also decided the branch's annual conference will be held in February while meeting at the divisional level will take place in March, both meetings are for the elections.

"The annual delegates conference at the branch level and Committee Election, Wanita, Youth Movement and Puteri Movement will be held for 26 days starting Feb 1 (Wednesday) to February 26, 2023,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Zahid had outlined five new directions to propel the party forward in line with the changes in attitude, thinking and political landscape of the country.

The first direction was to establish strategic cooperation by forming an understanding with fellow political parties and NGOs in facing new political reality.

Secondly, reenergise the party through restoration of ideas in line with the changing mindset and priorities of the people.

The third direction is to invest in future technology and communication to ensure the party members were up to date and adept with the advanced and speedy communication device to deliver the party's message.

The fourth direction was to revamp party's machinery to a more conventional data-based approach and also analysis of all levels in the party's structure fitting the voters demographic and the people's psychographics, which study their personality, values, opinion, attitudes, interests and lifestyles.

Lastly, the fifth direction stated the party should polish and highlight new faces in Umno frontline as well as to improve the members' quality and potential to inherit leadership for the party and the country.

Ahmad Maslan added Wanita Umno’s committee representation and election meeting, Umno Youth and Puteri’s Movement with Wanita Umno Exco’s election, Youth Exco movement and Central Puteri Umno exco movement would be held simultaneously throughout the country on March 11, 2023 (Saturday).

"The Umno Divisional Committee Representative and Election Meeting along with Umno Supreme Working Council Members election will be held simultaneously across the country on March 18, 2023," he said.

In the same post, Ahmad Maslan also said that former Johor Bahru MP Tan Sri Shahrir Ab Samad was appointed as Umno Election Committee 2023 chairman.
