SHAH ALAM - It is useless for young people to fight for the struggle of their ancestors, religion and nation when irresponsible figures are leading the party, says Umno Youth exco Datuk Muhamad Muqharrabin Mokhtarrudin.

He further declared that the democracy in the party had died and that its Supreme Council leaders were now the most cowardly in the history of Umno.

Disappointed by the attitude of the party’s top leaders, Muqarrabin decided to resign from his positions as national Umno Youth exco and Lembah Pantai’s youth chief.

Upon leaving the posts, he said, “I will hand in my official resignation letter this week.”

Having expressed a million thanks to fellow Umno peers who had fought with him since 2018, the former Umno member said, “We remain friends forever and cherish our brotherhood.

“Good luck to all Umno Youth chiefs across the country,” he said.

Yesterday, six members of Umno had either been sacked or suspended over alleged attempts to sabotage the party in the past general election.

Aside from Khairy, former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar was also sacked, while Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was suspended.

Other members suspended from the party for six years were former Umno Deputy Youth Chief Shahril Hamdan, Umno Youth Exco Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, former Jempol MP Salim Mohd Sharif and former Johor State Exco Maulizan Bujang.

Prior to this, during Umno’s general assembly, Muqarrabin had argued that all positions in Umno should be contested including its top two or Umno would only lose its direction and identity and go through another dark episode after its historic defeat in the 15th General Election.

Muqarrabin suggested that the rest of the posts should also get the same free pass if the president and deputy president positions were not run for contest.

He had stressed that Umno belongs to over three million members and not just a single family, he said that the motion not to contest the top two posts should not be approved.
