Three men get seven years; jail, two strokes for armed robbery

KUALA LUMPUR - The Sessions Court here today sentenced three men, including two siblings, to seven years’ jail and two strokes of the cane for robbing a woman last year.

Judge Norina Zainol Abidin handed down the sentence to Mohammad Ikram Sudirman Shah, 28, his brother Muhammad Amirul Hafiz, 24, and their friend, who is also the victim’s neighbour, Muhammad Hafiz Mohd Endo, 24, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

The trio were charged with committing gang robbery using a machete against a 27-year-old woman at the Pekan Kepong Setia people’s housing project, Jalan Silang here at 9.30 am on Nov 23, 2022.

The act resulted in the loss of five mobile phones, an Ipad Mini, a laptop, a game console, six branded watches, a gold bracelet, a helmet and cash amounting to RM50.

The charge was framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397 of the same Code, which provides up to 20 years in prison and whipping.

The court ordered all the accused to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest on Nov 23, last year.

According to the fact of the case, the trio had also stuffed batik cloth into the victim’s mouth and tied her hands and feet before they fled.

Earlier, Mohammad Ikram and Muhammad Amirul Hafiz, unrepresented, pleaded for a lenient sentence as they have 12 siblings and have to support three of them who are still in school. - BERNAMA
