The woman from Raseiniai in central Lithuania left for Malaysia to visit her internet friend in January 2019 when she was 19 years old, LRT quoted the Siauliai County Chief Police Commissariat as saying in a press release.
The parents contacted the Raseiniai District Police Commissariat and asked them to start a search for their missing daughter. The Malaysian police could not tell whether the Lithuanian woman was in their country, so the officers turned to the internet, the report said.
The investigators found the Facebook account of the Malaysian Lithuanian community and got in touch with its chairwoman Rita Ruke.
The report said Ruke urged the local detectives to check the location of all the possible phone numbers and addresses of the Lithuanian girl sent by the Raseiniai investigators.
The last check was carried out in December last year when Lithuanian officials learned that online purchases were made in the name of the missing woman.
At the request of Ruke, a detective went to the delivery address and found the missing girl. It was agreed that she would contact the Raseiniai District Police.
On Dec 20 last year, the woman had a video chat with Chief Investigator Vytautas Globis. "I am alive, well, and very happy,” she told him.
According to the report she left Lithuania and broke contact with her relatives because she did not want anything to do with them. - Bernama
