Cash gifts "supported by Selangor police and MACC" a scam, say police
SHAH ALAM - The police advised the poeple to be vigilant of fraud syndicates offering cash gifts of up to RM270,000, claiming to be supported by the Selangor police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Selangor acting police chief Datuk S Sasikala Devi said police detected a viral message on social media recently offering cash gifts from Telekom Malaysia, adding that the syndicate used her name to fool the victims into believing the message came from an official channel.
"The content of the message stated Sasikala and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in collaboration with MACC proves the gifts authenticity. This is impersonation, using the Selangor acting police chief's name," she said in a statement on Thursday.
Sasikala said the police have opened an investigation paper and advised the public to remain vigilant and to not immediately fall prey to fraudsters.
