KLANG - Hundreds of foreign workers in three wood and rubber products factories at Jalan Kapar, here were placed at poorly kept accommodation, which could endanger the life of hundreds of workers.

The situation was revealed after Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar conducted a special operation to check on accomodation under Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446) on Wednesday.

Sivakumar said the three premises inspected employed 44 local labourers and 526 foreign workers from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

"When we provide accommodation, we must provide a suitable place for them and do not treat it (accommodation) like as if they are placed in a cattle or buffalo shed," he told reporters today.

Sivakumar added all three employers were found to have committed 10 offences which include no valid certificate for operating a boiler machinery and employers were not contributing to Social Security Organisation (Socso).
