Show 'solid evidence' of not bribing voters, Isham tells PN
SHAH ALAM - Umno information chief Isham Jalil has told Perikatan Nasional (PN) to prove its claim with solid evidence of not bribing voters during the 15th general election (GE15).
Isham told PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin that only then people would be certain of the truth.
"If its true, show with solid evidence that PN did not bribe voters during the last general election.
"Also explain the videos which went viral and police reports made on PN members giving money to voters by making them to swear upon Allah to vote Pas," he claimed in a Facebook post.
Hamzah earlier today said PN has strong evidence to refute allegations that the coalition had bribed voters during Nov polls. He further said the coalition's defence team was prepared to prove the election petition filed by Terengganu Umno were untrue.
But Isham asked PN leaders to explain the police reports and viral video of PN giving out money to voters and making them swear in the name of God to vote for Pas.
Isham said that using the name of Allah to bribe is atrocious.
"Using the name of Allah to bribe voters is atrocious, lying to cover up those corrupt practices is not a good strategy, it's like digging a deeper hole to bury yourself," he claimed.
"Don't use religion to make your actions as halal. What's illegal is illegal, so repent," he said.
Terengganu Umno had earlier this month filed a petition to annul the results for the Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman parliamentary seats in GE15 which were all won by PAS, a PN component party.
The petition was filed in the Kuala Terengganu High Court on Jan 3 in accordance with the Election Offences Act 1954.
Terengganu Umno Liaison chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said among the matters raised in the petition were allegations that Pas had bribed voters by distributing financial aid from the state government from Nov 15 to 17, 2022 a few days before GE15, through the i-Pension, i-Belia and i-Student initiatives.
