KUALA LUMPUR - Op Selamat 19 recorded 18 fatal accidents and 22 deaths on the third day during the Chinese New Year festive period.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim said the statistics on Jan 20 (Friday), recorded 1,901 accident cases.

“2,852 vehicles were involved in accidents.

“Out of the total, 18 fatal accidents were recorded resulting in 22 deaths, nine serious injuries and 53 light injuries,” he said on Saturday.

JSPT have advised all individuals on the road to remain vigilant to avoid risk of accidents.

On Jan 13, Police Deputy Inspector-General Tan Sri Razarudin Husain officiated the Chinese New Year Op Selamat 19 Launch at the Overpass Restaurant, Ayer Keroh, Melaka (southbound), North South Highway (Plus).

With the theme ' Safely home Safety Towards Your Destination’ the campaign aims to focus on efforts to minimise road accidents and crime prevention during the festive season.
