RM5 chicken sold out within two hours
Visitor Yusof Yaakub, 38, said he was happy he could purchase the chicken at such a low price.
He explained the limited sale of two chickens per customer helped to ease some of his burdens.
“Alhamdulillah, I managed to buy the chicken because it was cheap, I have four children, two chickens could be saved for a week of food for our family.
“Rice was also cheap at RM8 for 5 kilograms. There were fish sold at a cheap price as well. I hope the sales would be made frequently because it definitely helps in easing our burdens,” he said to Sinar when met at the fair.
Another visitor to the fair A Marry, 70, said the quantity of the goods sold needs to be increased as it was not sufficient to cater to visitors.
She said basic necessities such as chicken, fish, vegetables, cooking oil and such were sold at a much lower prices than market prices,
“These sales aid in easing the people’s burdens, but the amount supplied is not enough, many had lost their opportunity to purchase it.
“There wasn’t much left when I arrived, but many were still in line to purchase them,” the Tapah resident said.
Juara Tapah Berhad Cooperative Chairman Ishsam Shahruddin said the sale was carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM).
He said the sales were done to aid locals who were burdened by the price hike.
He explained the selected essential items were given up to 30 per cent in discounts.
Other than chicken, other goods were sold at a much lower price were frozen beef at RM7 per pack, cabbages (RM2), 5kg rice (RM8), catfish (RM1 per fish) and several other items.
