Child killed as vehicle driven by father crashes on the way to a family day

MACHANG - A standard four student died in an accident at Kilometre 36.8 Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai here this morning while on a journey with his family to attend a family day.

During 7.15am incident, the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ayer Merah, Machang student, Wan Muhammad Raziq Haikal wan Mohd Sham Suhaimi, 10, died at the scene due to severe injuries on his body.

Machang police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud said during the incident, the victim was the passenger in a Perodua Kancil car driven by his father from Machang to Kem Desa Pahlawan Bukit Cina here.

“As they reached the location, a Perodua Myvi driven by a 28-year-old doctor was believed to lose control and crashed into the opposite road, which collided with the car the victim was in,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He added that the collision caused the victim to sustain severe injuries and he was pronounced dead.

His body was brought to Hospital Machang for a post-mortem.

“The victim’s father, aged 40 and the Perodua Myvi driver only sustained minor injuries,” he said.

Adli said the case is investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
