Maximus who had previously won without competing during the party's election in June, had announced last year that he will resign as the party's president within three years.
He was reported as saying that he will stick to his initial decision for another three years or as decided by the party's supreme council.
However, he said the party was currently in the process of identifying his successor and that it will take some time.
"The Supreme Council has voted me to stay even after I had announced that I will step back for the next election.
"This will provide ample time for PBS to search for my successor," he said after chairing the meeting on Friday.
He added that many young leaders in the party are able to build and bring the party to a higher level.
Maximus thanked the members for continuous support and trust towards his leadership.
