Husband and wife killed , seven injured in a car crash

MARANG - A married couple died while seven others were injured in an accident involving four vehicles at kilometer (km) 41.5 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan near Kampung Selawa, Merchang on Friday.
Marang District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the crash happened at about 8am involving a Proton Wira, Proton Satria Neo, Perodua Myvi and Perodua Axia.
"Early investigations found that the accident happened when the Proton Satria car from Dungun heading towards Kuala Terengganu skidded from loss of control and is believed to have hit a puddle in the middle of the road.
"The car entered the opposite lane and crashed three other cars that were moving in the opposite direction," he told reporters at the scene.
According to Mohd Zain, the victim, Rozita Mamat, 41, who was the front passenger of the Perodua Axia from Kampung Bukit Depu in Kuala Terengganu was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, Ahmad Arshad Mamat 50, died while receiving treatment at the Merchang Health Clinic.
He said the three other passengers in the Perodua Axia suffered serious injuries.
"All the injured victims were sent to Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu for treatment and the case is beig investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987," he said.
