SHAH ALAM - Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) denies speculation the party is leaving Perikatan Nasional (PN) due to concern of losing the chance to reclaim its seats in Penang.

The party's secretary Mak Kah Keong said the matter was never mentioned in any discussion as Gerakan was loyal to PN.

He also denied claims by Gerakan Kelantan leader Ong Khang Woon that specific people in the party wanted to be out of PN due to an internal rift.

"It is only made-up speculations and Gerakan never expressed such desire and the issue (to leave PN) never come up in any of our discussions as we are loyal to PN.

"This is all accusation made by irresponsible parties and we do not know their real motives," he said in a statement.

At the same time, Mak insisted that no party or leaders of Gerakan are dissatisfied with PN under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.

"Currently, Gerakan is focusing on preparations for the upcoming state elections and not racial issues in PN.

"Gerakan hopes leaders in PN which are our comrades in Pas and Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) do not trust the slander," he said.
