SEPANG - A young mother who allegedly strangled her one-year-old, six-month-old son to death will face charges in court here on Friday.

Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the investigation paper on the case has been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on Thursday.

"The victim's mother will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, and the suspect's boyfriend will be a prosecution witness for the case.

"Meanwhile, the suspect's husband was released because he had no connection with the case," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Sinar Harian reported the police had arrested a 20-year-old mother on suspicion of strangling her baby after a night together with her boyfriend at a condominium in Cyberjaya here on Jan 12.

The suspect is said to be a clerk at a private company and was in the process of divorcing after nearly two years of marriage with her unemployed husband.

The suspect was detained at a flat near Dengkil on Monday after the victim was pronounced dead three days after receiving treatment at Cyberjaya Hospital.

In the initial interrogation, the suspect admitted to suffocating her son with a pillow while he was sleeping due to marriage and family stress.
