SHAH ALAM - Malaysians must be introduced to and understand the Madani concept so that its implementation can effectively reach the people.

In saying this, National Professors Council (MPN) president Prof Datuk Dr Raduan Che Rose opined that the concept needed to be expanded to everyone so that no group would feel left out.

"The government will now face challenges in giving assurance to the non-Muslims or Muslims about understanding the concept, as it sounds like an Arabic word.

"People of other religions may feel awkward or not know how to say it.

"Therefore, the word and its concept need to be embedded in all government and education programmes to familiarise the people with them.

"MPN hopes there will be a process for acculturation and a deeper appreciation for the six elements being introduced," he said when contacted on Thursday.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim outlined six pillars to guide a unity government toward governing the country through the Madani concept.

The six pillars embedded in the Madani concept are 'kemampanan' (sustainability), 'kesejahteraan' (prosperity), 'daya cipta' (innovation); 'hormat' (respect); 'keyakinan' (trust), and 'ihsan' (compassion).

Furthermore, Raduan believed that the government should simplify the concept by using words and language that are easily understood by all races in order to be effective.

"I got the opportunity to speak to people other than Malays about what they understood about the concept of Madani. Most of them looked confused and unaware of such a word, let alone the meaning or concept that comes with it.

"This is pertinent so that it has to wholly reach all Malaysians, therefore, the government must take responsibility to educate people.

"For example, the concepts of 1Malaysia and Keluarga Malaysia have successfully reached the people, but are new words or terms that may take time for the people to understand and accept them," he added.
