Do thorough probe into RM4 bil leakages to detain white-collar criminals, says MP

JOHOR BAHRU - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police need to act after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's revealed that RM3 billion to RM4 billion worth of leakages at finance ministry.
Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim said the authorities need to immediately conduct a thorough investigation.
"The people and MPs will support the prime minister's efforts to fight corruption," he said, adding that action needs to be taken to ensure the case does not remain stagnant.
"Mere rhetoric is unnecessary in fight against corruption. What is needed is a forensic investigation into the root cause of these spillage and leakage because this is the state's money and the people's money," he said in a statement today.
On Jan 17, Anwar, the prime minister and the finance minister had said he has idnetified RM3 billion to RM4 billion leakages in the past two months he has been in the finance ministry.
Anwar further said during the Budget 2023 dialogue session in Putrajaya on Tuesday that Malaysia can save up to RM10 billion of leakages in the government's procurement system if corruption was nip in the bud.
Hassan, a lawyer said the prosecution must be efficient and professionally done substantial facts to ensure white-collar criminals do not escape.
"The prime minister has taken a firm step and now other agencies such as MACC, the police and the Attorney General chambers should not sit idly,” he said.
