LABUAN – Three civil servants were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Labuan after suspicion of accepting bribes for the approval of Sabah Licensed Small Boat licenses.

All suspects aged between 50 and 60 years old were arrested at around 12 noon today when they came to give their statements at the Labuan MACC office.

According to sources, the suspects, who worked at the Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu departments were suspected to receive bribes of approximately RM3,000 to RM5,000 from tour operator companies between 2017 and 2019.

“The money is for each Sabah Licensed Small Boat license that has been issued for additional 12 passengers without going through the actual passenger addition application procedure.

Labuan MACC Director Datu Robbyie Shym Datu Pindatun confirmed the arrest when contacted.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

"The three suspects will be taken to Labuan Sessions Court tomorrow to apply for remand," he said on Wednesday.
