KUALA LUMPUR - Umno's image among youth voters could deteriorate due to the recent decision by the party to not have a contest for its top two posts Its vice president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said the decision can be misconstrued by the young voters, as they could view the party undemocratic.
" The youth are mostly idealistic, what happen today goes against their views on democracy.
" This would tarnish the image of the party further in their eyes, we said that we wanted to pull in youth voters but this would push them even further," he told reporters at the Umno General Assembly today.
He also disagree if the top two posts were contested that it will create more fractions within the party.
" Actually I do not think that a contest for the top two posts will cause any rifts if the main point is not to cause disunity than might as well don't have any party polls at all," he elaborated.
Party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan have managed to cement their grip on Umno after the no-contest supplementary motion was passed via voice vote today.
