KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s upper echelons – especially those who hold ministerial position in the government – were reminded to ensure that jailed former party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak be given “true justice.”

The call was raised by Pahang Umno delegate Fadzil Mohamad Kamal during his turn at the rostrum at the party’s 2022 General Assembly today, arguing that Najib, a victim of “political prosecution” must not be left in the lurch.

“We hope that the party leadership and the government take the necessary steps vis-à-vis Najib’s upcoming judicial review due this January 19,” the Raub youth division chief Fadzil told Sinar Daily afterwards.

He stressed that Najib – who was sentenced to 12 years jail in 2022 over several counts of corruption involving SRC International – had been given an unfair trial.

“He was denied of his right to change his lawyers. He was prevented from submitting new evidence and was judged by a judge who clearly has a conflict of interest in the case.

“It is high time that the grassroots, the party’s leadership and the country deal with this issue seriously. We demand justice,” Fadzil stressed.
