Umno's future is still bright
FARAH SHAZWANI ALI , NURUL HUDA HUSAIN , NURFARDLINA IZZATI MOKTARKUALA LUMPUR - Despite the challenges in the 15th General Election (GE15), Umno's future is still bright.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said seeing the attendance of about 3,000 delegates at the 2022 Umno General Assembly (PAU) showed that Umno still had strong support from the grassroots nationwide.
"The party still has a bright future.
“I can feel that the party is still supported by the grassroots leadership which could be seen through their sincerity and their faces.
"Despite the violent political tsunami, we still remain loyal and steadfast under Umno's roof.
"I am expressing this as I am confident that everyone present at PAU this time, came as we are responsible for the ups and downs of Umno," he said in his policy speech at the 2022 Umno General Assembly, at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.
Zahid added that there was no need to point fingers at any party for Umno's big defeat in GE15 and instead all parties should take the responsibility over the defeat.
"If you seek to find the reason for the defeat in GE15, we are the cause. If someone is to be blamed, it is us. If we want to rebuild, we are the constructor.
"Hopefully starting today, we would move forward together. I started my speech by expressing what is in my heart because this is a medium for honesty.
"The general assembly is a place for us to momentarily reflect, so that we can continue to move forward," he said.
