Zahid demands justice for Najib and the floor roared
KUALA LUMPUR - Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reiterated the clarion call for jailed former party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be given a “proper justice.”
In his policy speech delivered at the party’s 2022 General Assembly, here today, Zahid insisted that such needed to be done as Najib has been a victim of trumped-up charges.
“He must be given justice! Proper justice!
“His court case, we all know it was a mere selective political prosecution,” said Zahid followed by a deafening cheer from delegates in the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre’s (KLWTC) Merdeka Hall.
He added that Najib’s ‘Bossku’ persona was one of the main factors that helped return the people’s confidence to Umno following its loss in the 14th General Election in 2018.
“We don’t have to be apologetic about it. The ‘Bossku’ persona among the many reasons why people came to back to Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Although there some within the party who questioned ‘Bossku’ presence because of his court case,” said Zahid.
Najib was sentenced to 12 years jail in 2022 over several counts of corruption involving SRC International.
The charges are related to Najib’s role in some US$4.5 billion being looted from state investment fund 1MDB and siphoned through his personal accounts.
