KLANG - All supermarkets nationwide are encouraged to participate in the Rahmah Sales, one of the programmes under the Rahmah Initiative campaign to ease the burden of cost of living pressures on the people, especially the B40 group.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the newly introduced initiative was a year-round cheap sales campaign programme that will be implemented by supermarkets in stages.

He said the ministry would hold discussions with several hypermarkets in the country to establish cooperation, especially involving cheap sales.

Through the programme, Salahuddin added that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) could issue a permit for a cheap sale notice for any supermarket to carry out the Rahmah Sales for a maximum of four months.

"We aim that the supermarket will offer essential goods up to 30 per cent cheaper than the market prices. All supermarkets are very welcome to collaborate to make this initiative a success," he said after launching the Rahmah Sales and Price Reduction Campaign of 1,000 Items at Econsave Pandamaran here today.

Salahuddin said the programme would not involve any allocation from the government.

He said Econsave was pioneering the initiative with its 91 branches across the country implementing the Rahmah Sales until April 22.

"The prices of items like dry food, laundry detergent, wheat flour, formula milk and baby disposable diapers are reduced up to 30 per cent,” he said.

Salahuddin said industry players and the public who are interested to know more about the Rahmah Sales can contact the Secretariat of Distributive Trade and Services Industry at 03-8882 5881/5905 or email [email protected]. - BERNAMA
