Kemaman District Police Chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the 40-year-old suspect was arrested following investigations after receiving a video from a witness.
“With the arrest of the suspect, we seized several items such as jewellery, phones and watches allegedly stolen from victims,” he told the media, here, on Wednesday.
Hanyan said early investigations found the suspect would pounce in moments when the victims were distracted, asleep or were careless in locking their doors.
He said the suspect had also committed such crimes in other districts before preying on residents around Kampung Gong Limau and Kampung Gong Pauh in July.
“The suspect was an ex-convict believed to have been involved in 19 break-ins with estimated losses of up to RM120,000. The suspect had a previous record and has now been remanded until tomorrow and the case is investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary,” said Hanyan.
