KOTA BHARU - Kelantan suggests the government implement a control towards the entrance of Chinese tourists to the country following the rise in Covid-19 cases.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the Health Ministry should not repeat the same mistakes of allowing the entrance of tourists without any form of control.

He said the suggestion followed several other countries that decided to control the entry of Chinese tourists.

"Which is more important, the income through tourism or the safety of the people? "I read the reports regarding the rise of Covid-19. If necessary, they need to be given the conditions of having a vaccination certificate and proof of health other than a temperature screening," he said.

He said this to reporters after he attended the Kelantan Menteri Besar Special New Year's Mandate and the Kelantan Civil Servant Assembly here, on Thursday.

Amar said the people had suffered major economic effects in the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The state government could not precede the Federal government's decision by implementing certain actions.

"Previously, they (Federal government) established a special Committee to overcome Covid-19," he said.
