PUTRAJAYA - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is confident that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor would be able to handle the development of housing for flood victims in Baling, Kedah. He said the Kedah State Government should take the responsibility to help its people that were affected by the recent floods "The decision in the recent elections showed that they had managed to get 100 percent support in terms of parliamentary seats, so it should translate to them supporting the people and giving them the aid they need," he said Zahid added that 34 flood victim's houses were repaired by an agency under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) while eight new houses have already been handed over to its owners in December. "I am confident Sanusi would be able to perform his responsibilities as confidently as how he spoke on the political stages during the elections ," he said. In July a total of 13 villages and 74 homes were affected by floods at Mukim Kupang near Baling. Among the areas involved were Kampung Iboi, Kampung Bendang Bechah, Kampung Hangus, Kampung Bendang Padang, Kampung Tok Saba, Kampung Masjid Iboi, Kampung Lata Chelak, and Kampung Tanjung Nering. Zahid said a coordination meeting was held between the Central Disaster Committee and ministries as well as agencies to find a comprehensive solution to overcome the North East and South West monsoon issues. " Each time a flood occurs there are homes that need fixing, there are houses that are being swept away that needs to be rebuilt, damaged roads that need to be repaired and the cycle would repeat itself. " We must find a complete long term solution." he said
