Wisma Jakel: Fire Dept to summon witnesses, individuals to aid investigation

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will summon witnesses or individuals who recorded videos of the fire incident at Wisma Jakel, here on Tuesday to assist the investigation.

Selangor Fire Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said his department would scrutinise the second fire that broke out this morning from every angle and determine whether there was an element of foul play or others.

He said the department had mobilised 43 firemen in addition to the deployment of its Tracker Dog Unit (K9).

"We are looking at the aspect of the fire whether it was caused by previous embers (the first fire) or the wiring, but the wiring can probably be ruled out because the electricity supply had been shut off.

"The operation will continue until all sources of fire are completely extinguished.

“We have sent a team inside to unload and move the existing textiles to ensure there are no more embers," he told reporters at the scene of the incident on Tuesday.

Also present was Shah Alam District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.

Norazam added that the department would call witnesses in addition to analysing the video that was made viral in cooperation with the police.

He said this was done to get information based on videos circulated on social media.

"We will analyse from all angles where the fire first started.

"There is no conclusion about the second fire yet. We will investigate within 14 days period and samples of the fire need to be analysed.

"We need to prove it with facts and analysis results. We will study in depth, there is no conclusion about the cause of this second fire yet," he said.

In the first incident at 7.08am on Sunday, the fire at the three-storey Wisma Jakel building resulted in the textile company suffering losses estimated at almost RM100 million.

Following that, at 12.40am on Tuesday, the second incident occurred involving the curtain fabric storage room at the store in question.
