SHAH ALAM - Parents or caretakers who abandon their child without supervision should have actions taken against them under Section 33 (1) of the Child Act 2001.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said actions could be taken if such elements were present based on police reports.

"I want to remind parents and caretakers to always care, supervise and not abandon their children.

"Neighbours, as well as the local community, must report to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) if there were cases of children left without supervision," she said in a statement on Monday.

Sinar previously reported two children died in a housefire at Jalan Dewan Simpang Tiga Kampung Tanguit, Gombak, on Monday.

The incident claimed the lives of Nur Syaza Alfisya Muhammad Faizan,10, and her brother Muhammad Al Qayyum Muhammad Faizan, 7.

Nancy said the ministry provided early disaster relief aids in addition to identifying appropriate additional aid to be given to the victims involved.

She said a temporary evacuation centre had been opened at the Kampung Simpang 3 Community Hall, Gombak.
