158 floating bricks of 'ganja' found in Sungai Yan
YAN: Some 158 floating bricks of weed were found scattered in Sungai Yan near Kampung Tengah Makau, Yan last Saturday.
District police chief DSP Shahnaz Akhtar Haji said the police received reports from a man who allegedly found the weed floating and scattered near the river bank.
Following that, a team of police officers deployed from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) was sent to the location.
"Upon checks, we found 80 packs of compressed weed where dried (marijuana) leaves were wrapped in transparent and silver plastic wrappers at the river bank of Sungai Yan.
"The police also found another 78 bricks wrapped in silver and gold plastic wrappers, about 500 metres away from the first location," he told a press conference on Monday.
Shahnaz said orders were issued to check throughout the river, however, no others were found.
All 158 bricks were taken to Yan police headquarters for further investigation, he added.
He said police are now investigating when and how the drugs were thrown into the river and the individuals who are responsible for it.
The case is now being investigated under Section 39 (B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 - Awani
